The Wildkogel Arena in Neukirchen am Grossvenediger offers the world's longest illuminated toboggan run at 14 km — with 1,300 m elevation drop, floodlit until 10 pm, ascent by gondola (approx. 130 km from Salzburg, 1 hr 40 min). Closer options: the Untersberg toboggan run (just 20 min.!), the Lidaun natural run in Faistenau (1.5 km, 25 min from Salzburg), the Gernkogel run in St. Johann (4.5 km, 60 min.), and the Gnadenalm near Obertauern (1.5 km, floodlit, 1 hr 10 min).
Night Tobogganing — A Magical Experience
Night tobogganing is a truly special experience: floodlit runs through snowy forests, starry skies above the mountains, and a cosy mountain hut afterwards. The most popular night runs: Untersberg (Wed & Fri), Zinkenlieft (Thu & Sat), Faistenau (illuminated evening run until 9 pm), and Gnadenalm near Obertauern (every evening). Helmets are mandatory in Salzburg for children up to 15 on groomed runs. Toboggan rental: approx. EUR 5–8 per day.
