1,834 metres above history
On the summit of the Kehlstein, high above Berchtesgaden, stands a building that made history. Built in 1938 as a gift for Adolf Hitler's 50th birthday, the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest) is today a place of remembrance and one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Bavarian Alps. From the terrace of today's panorama restaurant, you overlook the Königssee, the Watzmann (2,713m), and on clear days, all the way to Salzburg.

History & Panorama at the Summit
The 6.5 km Kehlstein road climbs 800 metres through five tunnels — a masterpiece of engineering, blasted into the mountain in just 13 months. Special RVO buses take you to the summit, where a marble-lined tunnel and the legendary brass elevator from 1938 await. At the top, the panorama restaurant serves Bavarian and Austrian cuisine with a 360° terrace overlooking the Berchtesgaden Alps — with views of Lake Königssee, the Watzmann, and on clear days all the way to Salzburg.

Combine the Eagle's Nest with the Obersalzberg Documentation Centre or a boat trip on Lake Königssee.
